Why You Shouldn't Tie Health Goals To The New Year

For many people, January is a good time to focus on weight and well-being for a healthier new year. But if you really want to be your best self this year, you might want to think twice about tying self-improvement to the calendar.

The best bet for getting real results is to emphasize the now, even if you don't get started right at the beginning of the year, according to Pamela Peeke, senior science advisor for addiction treatment center Elements Behavioral Health. Peeke joined HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd to share some motivational words for becoming your best self as soon as possible.

"Every single day is a perfect time to be able to regroup. There's none of this waiting until Jan. 1, blowing it, then doing the perfectionistic thing and just saying, 'Oh, to hell with it until next year,'" Peeke said. "This year is brand new. Right now, yesterday, tomorrow -- anytime is good. But it's the now thing."
