Better Call Saul Season 2 episode 3 — Schmaltz across Texas

For my money, there is no one better at opening an episode than Vince Gilligan and company. No one. And tonight’s Better Call Saul episode “Amarillo” boasts a doozy. With Ernest Tubb crooning “Waltz Across Texas” as his accompaniment, Jimmy strikes a classic cowboy pose. You know the one. The stuff cowboy-silhouette yard art is made of. Decked in a Stetson, armadillo bolo tie and cowboy boots — apparently Wrangler does not make business suits — our guy leans against a wall that’s painted like a giant Texas flag. He’s, indeed, in Amarillo. A passenger van pulls up and the driver gets out, apologizing … Continue reading

Jane the Virgin Chapter 35 recap: Owning Your Choice

On last week’s episode of Jane the Virgin, we saw Michael confess his love for Jane and she told him that she loved him back. Is he really the one? Has Jane finally figured out her one? Now that the two have spent 216 days apart, they have a lot to catch up on. Such topics include Michael not really having a girlfriend and Jane sort of having dating her Professor. There are happy things they were able to talk about such as little Mateo growing up and the two sharing kisses all night long. However, Jane knows that all … Continue reading

Recap: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Episode 13: Josh and I Go to Los Angeles!

Recap – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Episode 13: “Josh and I Go to Los Angeles!” – The CW, original airdate Mon. 2/29/16 (For all Crazy Ex recaps, click here.) Well, they did it. They unjumped the shark for me. I’m pretty impressed with how the writers for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend handled the whole foiled fake boyfriend situation. In Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Episode 13, Rebecca handles the Trent situation (or, more accurately, Trent handles the Trent situation); Rebecca and a longtime rival battle it out, rap style; and the team heads to L.A. to try the hot water case. The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition — A Different Type of Mama Drama

When you throw 12 women into one house, you’re bound to get drama — that’s just a fact. When those 12 women are sets of mothers and daughters, things get more complicated. When those mother-daughter pairs are celebrities, you’d better get ready to hear a lot of bleeped-out words and watch some catfights. 😼 The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition is coming to Lifetime on March 1. This is not to be confused with the regular Mother/Daughter Experiment, which, uh, doesn’t exist. (The “Celebrity Edition” thing really threw me for a loop.) The Walking Dead Season 6 episode 11 recap – Do We Got A Friend in Jesus?

Do we? Last week, we were left with the naked bums of Michonne and Rick as they hopped out of the sack, weapons in hand, to address Paul’s visit to their “honey-MOON” suite, or whatever you wanna call it. I’m calling it weird, but the rest of the world seems to be into the Richonne thing. I get it, but it’s still causing me some discomfort … kind of like a tiny pebble in my favorite pair of trusty worn old sneakers. Whatever. I’m weird. Sorry world. In a much more funny, generally more mature and cerebral take than the approach taken by those who would accuse Donald Trump of peeing his pants, or of basically having a small penis, John Oliver, in his imitable fashion, finally tackled The Donald after purposely avoiding him on his HBO show, Last Week Tonight. Better Call Saul Season 2 episode 2 recap: It don’t mean squat

When I spoke to Michael McKean prior to the start of Better Call Saul Season 2, he promised me that, soon enough, people would have a better understanding of Chuck’s trepidations about baby brother Jimmy. On tonight’s episode, “Cobbler,” we begin to see why. And to see flickers of the Saul that Breaking Bad fans knew — know — and loved, despite ourselves. And feels pangs for all we now know he has to lose. Also, we get a new McGill-ism to add to the BCS vernacular. But more about that later. It’s worth the wait. Pie fans, consider yourself warned. We … Continue reading

Jane the Virgin Chapter 34 recap: Jane the Virgin?

We had a week off from Jane the Virgin but it’s game time ladies and gents. Jane might be losing her v-card to Professor Magic Mike this episode! Being a virgin mother just doesn’t make sense to Jane anymore. Michael didn’t waste any time finding out who the first altered face was on that chip Rose had. He called the man in and told him that he would work with the police in order to get Rose to come down and buy the chip off of him. It’s too bad that Rose and Elena already know the cops are the … Continue reading

Shameless Season 6, episode 7 recap – “Pimp’s Paradise”

Last week’s Shameless was a crazy wild ride, offering some closure to some circumstances but only the beginning of others. So looking forward to this week’s episode, I was disappointed — super snoozefest — and it took some weird turns. I have noticed this show is a rollercoaster. Build up a storyline … drag it out … then poof! Over! Move on to a new one. There are, of course, some key points in this episode that launch the next arch in the Gallaghers’ twisted lives. Which is — of course — what always keeps me loving this show. So with my editorial opinion out … Continue reading

Wait, WHO hooked up? The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 10 recap The Next World

Oh, fans of The Walking Dead … as if things weren’t weird enough already… So, faithful fans of the zombie soap opera, another week has come to pass … or several weeks, based on the amount of time it takes to develop an actual photograph of one-eyed Carl holding Judith. Seriously. Where’d I missed the Walgreens photo center — and when was the last time anyone loaded actual film into a camera to take a picture? Maybe Alexandria’s new plans included a dark room. I don’t know, but Boston’s playing as the episode opens, so maybe this all happened pre-digital. So, … Continue reading

The Walking Dead Season 6 episode 9 recap: All Together Now?

Holy crap! The Walking Dead Season 6 returned tonight … and with a BANG and a lot of bloodshed! When we were slapped with the much-hated season break, Sasha, Abraham and Daryl (aka RAWR!) were faced with a group of motorcycling Negan-minions. I don’t know about you, but I have NOT been looking forward to Negan’s arrival. It’s inevitable, but I still don’t want it … being grounded for having parties while my parents were up north was inevitable, too. I hate the inevitable. Anyway! Negan’s unnamed chimp … which I will call him because of his ginormous ears and my … Continue reading

Craig Ferguson says History’s “Join or Die” features “unhinged, dangerous, rollicking” conversation

It’s always nice to see when a network gets back to its original mission — and its name — and History has been doing a fine job of that of late. For history buffs, miniseries like Texas Rising have helped complement other series like Pawn Stars, and the new series Join or Die With Craig Ferguson should also be a welcome addition for those who like to discuss, and debate, history. The series is the brainchild of former late-night host Craig Ferguson, and will feature a roundtable of people talking about six historical events or figures, whittling them down to … Continue reading

On Set: “Brain Games” Wants To Give You A Mindgasm

I’m at a castle outside of London, and I’m watching King Henry VIII (and his suspiciously large, but historically accurate, codpiece) counsel three people in matching sweaters. One of the three is a genius. And celebrity smartie Jason Silva is there. But this isn’t a dream — this is Brain Games, and I’ve been invited along as the NGC series shoots Season 5, and further explores the 3 pounds of gray stuff that resides inside our skulls. Our adventure for today is Hever Castle, the childhood home of Henry VIII’s second wife Anne Boleyn and also home to an impressive … Continue reading

Better Call Saul Season 2: Has Jimmy chucked Chuck for good? We ask Michael McKean

When we left Better Call Saul’s brothers McGill, Chuck the elder (Michael McKean) had dealt Jimmy the younger (Bob Odenkirk) a one-two punch of heartache, handing over Jimmy’s big nursing home case to Chuck’s own firm, while letting his baby brother know just what he thought of him as a jurist, if not a person altogether. And while Jimmy got a shot at redemption via a job offer from another prestige firm (and some clarity into the real reason Howard Hamlin was such a shmuck to him all these years), a return trip home and the loss of Marco — … Continue reading
