In his latest book, Whipping Boy: The Forty-Year Search for My Twelve-Year-Old Bully, writer Allen Kurzweil chronicles his search for a man named Cesar Augustus who bullied him throughout his youth at boarding school. He joined HuffPost Live host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani to discuss his motivations behind it, as well as what he ultimately found.
"I didn't seek out revenge," said Kurzweil. "I was looking for remorse, closure, an apology, something that could allow us as victim and attacker to transcend that moment in childhood when we had such a conflicted relationship. He was unable to provide that sense of closure for himself or for me ... But after Whipping Boy came out, something extraordinary happened. Among all of those emails I received ... I received two emails from 50-year-old guys, people I didn't even know. And they said, 'Thank you.' They said 'thank you' because when they were 12, they had been bullied mercilessly, they had been humiliated -- and they had been bullied and humiliated by Cesar."
