This past weekend, Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley ran into trouble during their appearances at Netroots Nation, a progressive political conference, when Black Lives Matter activists interrupted their speeches to draw attention to a topic that has been of increasing prominence especially over the past year — the deaths of people of color at the hands of police officers, and the idea of white privilege.
