Recap: Naked and Afraid, “Lord of the Rats”

I am do glad to see a new episode of Naked and Afraid. I was a little steamed to have a clip show last week.  I know it was a holiday, but It would have been pretty awesome to have current service members take on the 21-day survival challenge. I know we’ve had military veterans on the show, but I’d love to see some 21-year-olds try to put what they’ve just learned into practice. Let’s get started and meet this week’s brave survivalists. Angela Age 36 Pittsburgh, PA Angela has 5 kids and is engaged. She’s a self-taught survivalist and … Continue reading

Nurse Jackie recap Season 7, Episode 8 “Managed Care” (original airdate May 31, 2015) We start with a little mommy/daughter one-on-one time with Grace (Ruby Jerins) and Jackie (Edie Falco) shopping. Grace can’t pick between two outfits. Jackie suggests she gets them both. Grace knows all too well, and reminds she doesn’t have money for that. Plus, she usually only buys her things when she feels guilty. Neither is the situation this time, so Jackie springs it on her. “I’m getting married to Eddie.” Grace ain’t digging that idea. When Jackie tries to defend Eddie as a good man, Grace digs … Continue reading

Outlander season finale recap: How to save someone who doesn’t want to be saved

Outlander season finale, episode 16 “To Ransom A Man’s Soul” (original airdate May 30, 2015) Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies both deserve Emmy consideration, as they translated the most horrifying and graphic material from the novel into one of the most scaring episodes we’ve ever seen on TV. Heugan left us jaw-dropped and pained as season 1 of Outlander came to a brutal and emotionally charged ending. The episode begins with the beating of drums and a marching-flute melody playing in the background as we see the British army gather outside Wentworth Prison. Inside the walls cameras follow the cracks … Continue reading

Seven reasons to binge-watch TV shows

You might subscribe to a streaming service like Netflix, Hulu or Amazon. Or you might rely on ad-supported venues like Crackle or the online streaming sites of individual broadcast and cable networks. Or you might just opt to watch TV shows via iTunes, DVD, Blu-ray … or even off-the-air recordings you set up on your DVR. In any case, if you watch three or more episodes of a TV series during one sitting, the TV world classifies you as a binge-watcher. If you don’t binge-watch, you probably should get into it because it’s a great way to enjoy TV shows. … Continue reading

Aquarius two-hour premiere: Summer of Love begins to get dark

While interesting, NBC’s new drama Aquarius doesn’t exactly break new ground. In fact, the only original thing about it might be its distribution plan. Following last night’s two-hour premiere, all 13 episodes of the show are now available for binge-watching at NBC.com and other VOD platforms. “With Aquarius we have the opportunity to push some new boundaries to give our audience something no broadcast network has done before,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt. “We are fully aware how audiences want to consume multiple episodes of new television series faster and at their own discretion, and we’re excited to offer our viewers … Continue reading

As you can tell from the photo above, the repackaging is inspired by Downton Abbey, as new narrator Rupert Graves explains the drama in the “Whiskers Mob” of meerkats that became viewer favorites (hopefully the post-Edwardian garb will not be CGIed onto the real meerkats). … Continue reading
