The Ultimate Playlist for When You Are Running on Empty

Music, to paraphrase Madonna, joins people together. It mixes the bourgeoisie with the rebel, and lifts you up along the way. A strong, empowering lyric can both motivate and encourage, even when things don’t seem to be going your way.

As Monty Python put it, “If life seems jolly rotten, there’s something you’ve forgotten…and that’s to laugh and smile and sing.”

We partnered with the makers of Angel Soft® bathroom tissue to share some of our favorite, most inspirational tunes below. With more sheets than the leading brand, Angel Soft bath tissue makes sure you never feel like you are running on empty -- at least not in the john!

1. Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) – Kelly Clarkson

“What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stand a little taller.”

Someone trying to knock you down? Don’t you let them! You're a strong person who can fight through anything, no matter what it may be.

2. Express Yourself - Madonna

“You deserve the best in life, So if the time isn't right then move on. Second best is never enough. You'll do much better baby on your own.”

Stuck in a less than ideal relationship? Bored out of your mind at work? Move on! Life is short.

3. We Are The Champions – Queen

Freddie Mercury said it best way back in 1977: “And bad mistakes--I’ve made a few. I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face. But I’ve come through.”

We all have our regrets. The goal is to learn from your errors, cut yourself a break, and most importantly: forgive yourself.

4. Don’t Worry Be Happy – Bobby McFerrin

“In every life we have some trouble. But when you worry, you make it double.”

Maybe it’s easier said than done, but Bobby McFerrin understood that you don’t get ahead by worrying about the future. ‘Nuff said.

5. Beautiful Day – U2

“It’s a beautiful day. Don’t let it get away.”

Enjoy today, because you never know when Life will send some not-so-beautiful days your way.

6. I Believe I Can Fly - R. Kelley

“If I can see it, then I can do it. If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it.”

Talk about the power of visualization. If you can imagine something, and if you can believe in it, then anything’s possible.

7. Let it Go - Idina Menzel

“You'll never see me cry. Here I stand. And here I'll stay. Let the storm rage on.”

The heroine of Frozen knew what she was talking about. In short: Nothing’s gonna bring you down, no matter what’s happening around you.

8. Beautiful - Carole King

“You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face, and show the world all the love in your heart.”

Carole King survived all sorts of heartache and came out the other side with Tapestry, one of the best-selling albums of all times. Moral of the story: Seize the day with an open head and heart. (And a few writing utensils).

9. Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

“Don’t you know that there ain’t no mountain high enough. Ain’t no valley low enough. Ain’t no river wide enough. To keep me from getting to you, baby.”

Sure, obstacles always arise, but you can overcome them to reach your baby, however you define it.

10. I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

Gloria Gaynor’s song has become an anthem for empowerment and self love: “Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I’ll stay alive!”

The lesson is quite clear: As long as your heart’s open, as long as you don’t ever give up, you’ll keep on thriving. And surviving.

11. The Greatest Love Of All - Whitney Houston

As Whitney sang, “Not matter what they take from me, they can’t take away my dignity. Because the greatest love of all is happening to me.”

The world is filled with naysayers. But as long as you love yourself--and believe in yourself—no one will ever get you down.

12. Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles

“Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting.”

Translation? There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. It might take a while to see it, but it’s there.

13. My Way - Frank Sinatra

“Yes, there were times, I’m sure you know. When I bit off more than I could chew. But through it all, where there was doubt, I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all and I stood tall. And did it my way.”

If anyone did it his way, it’s Ol’ Blue Eyes.

14. I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas

“I got a feelin’ that tonight’s gonna be a good good night.”

You might have had the worst day ever…but you never know what’s around the corner. There’s a good chance it’s pretty, pretty good.
