Mark Ballas Dishes On The 'Grueling' Training Sessions Of 'Dancing With The Stars'

The performers on Dancing With The Stars may make their complicated steps look easy, but it takes a whole lot of work to get a number ready for the big show.

Celebrity competitors go through "grueling" training sessions to prepare them to match the skills of their professional partners, according to DWTS coach Mark Ballas. He chatted with HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker on Dec. 4 about the long process of teaching someone with little to no dance experience to perform in front of millions.

"Even if they have had some training in the past, even if you've been on a Broadway show, nothing will prepare you for this," Ballas said. "Even professional dancers that want to take up ballroom dancing, it's a whole different language."

Ballas added that it's not uncommon for training sessions to stretch as long as 12-15 hours a day with just a short break for lunch.
